The West Coast Trail

So, in the summer, of 2008, I had the most amazing opportunity to hike the West Coast Trail on Vancouver Island with my mom and some good friends from Victoria, whom I had met while working in California two years earlier. I had enjoyed hiking the Milford Track in New Zealand in 2003, and was very excited to set out on this homegrown trail that I had heard so much about. We hiked the 75km trail from Bamfield to Port Renfrew (north to south), bathing in waterfalls, filtering drinking water from streams, singing made up songs (ask us about Ninny-Nat-Nat), sharing stories, eating delicious food (thanks Katrina), witnessing a bear, and bearing witness to some of the most breathtaking scenery that I have ever had the privilege to behold. There were challenges and triumphs along the way, blisters, the most delicious crabs, and the best damn burger you have ever had in your life! Timing the tides, playing games around the campfire, and the sharing of such an experience with people I care so dearly about was such a highlight in my life. As such, I wanted to take my camera to capture it all and prevent the memories from fading into the past. This is the part where I am sure I can hear groans across the Pacific from Luke and Katrina... The date on this post is 2015, and the hike happened over Canada Day weekend, in 2008. While I kept assuring my comrades that I would have the photos edited some day, that day surely wasn't someday soon. But here we are, just shy of seven years after the hike, two babies and many trips to Victoria later, I have finally made the time to process and share them. Luke and Katrina, I am sorry for the wait, I hope it was worth it!
